Deane Home Services Reintroduction

Deane Home Services was established in 2017. After spending a number of years in the construction business, it was time to build our own renovation company in an industry populated with companies employing a variety of methods and processes to assist clients with achieving their visions.

There are a variety of pathways to reach success at the end of a renovation project. There are just as many, if not more, pathways to business success in the construction industry. Construction offers a variety of options for specialization. Spec homes, custom homes, handyman services along with specializing in one of the many trades involved in the construction process; roofing, siding, window and door, flooring, tile, drywall, painting and the list goes on.

Initially Deane Home Services started out as a handyman services company. Deane, in his truck, showing up and assisting clients with a variety of maintenance and repair issues. Eventually clients wanted assistance with larger and more challenging projects. Bathroom renovations, kitchen upgrades, basement conversions and similar projects. Again, there are a variety of methods to approach these projects. Initially we chose to attack each phase of the projects (other than electrical and plumbing which require specialized licensing) in-house. We did it all – demo, framing, insulation, drywall, painting, tile, finish carpentry. As our workload increased, our labor pool grew and managing the business side of things became increasingly challenging.

Over the course of a few years, Deane grew to understand that there was a better way to market, manage and still provide an excellent product for our clients. He was struggling to manage the day-to-day operations, intake new client and provide complete and accurate proposals along with the work he was doing in the field alongside his employees. Sheri joined Deane Home Services in 2022 and alleviated some of the burden by taking on the administrative side of the business.

In late 2022, Sheri came across an advertisement for a construction business consultant. They were offering a seminar in Bellevue which outlines how to improve your process and improve efficiency. They offered free continental breakfast and lunch so we figured it made sense to at least take a look at what they had to offer.

So began our relationship with The Aspire Institute. They helped us to streamline our processes and showed us how to create better marketing strategies, build relationships with Trade Partners (not subcontractors which is another blog post coming soon), elevate our estimating and proposal process and oversee an efficient build process that finishes strong and provides the client with the best experience possible.

Through this process we determined that the best process to success for Deane Home Services isn’t to complete each phase of the project ourselves, but rather establish relationships with specific trade partners in each area of construction and allow them to perform what they do on a daily basis and oversee their installations. Over the course of the last 2 years, The Aspire Institute has helped us to refine our processes and provide a better value and product for our core clientele.

Some companies have a large pool of labor to pull from with a variety of staff that specialize in individual areas of expertise. Framing, drywall, paint, tile installation and other areas of the construction process. By working with Trade Partners, rather than full-time employees, that specialize in those areas, we can utilize their individualized expertise and efficiencies to maintain costs and schedules to meet the needs of the client.

Deane Home Services has created an efficient and proven process from initial consultation to estimating and proposal generation through implementation and completion of the project. Our proven process keeps our overhead low and allows us to provide timely high-quality installations that meet design and investment level based upon our initial consultation and refinement of the design process.
